My husband is 60 years old. I let him read the book and shortly after I could see the tears of joy. He loved this book………….can you imagine how kids love it? this is a true story of bravery, determination and compassion to save the lives of our most beautiful furry companions.
I have no idea how Nancy Bain the author, and Julie Leiman the illustrator could capture such a story in a small book. Absolutely penetrating the sould and the most wonderful educational tool to teach children how to love and to resecue those who can not fend for themselves.
Thank you thank you thank you.

I am a Turtle Gardens supporter, so I wanted to buy this book to help TG. When my copies arrived, I realized that this was a wonderful book even for those who have never heard of Turtle Gardens. I am a retired elementary school teacher, so I have read my share of children’s books. This one is excellent. The illustrations are vivid and arresting, and they add not detract from the story. It is well-written, exciting and meaningful. Children and adults can be reminded of how vital a part of life it is to be humane, caring and committed to helping others, and what a group of like-minded people can accomplish by working together. This book brought tears to my eyes, too, both for the horror these poor dogs suffered and for their incredible rescue. Bravo, Nancy!

What a wonderfully illustrated book for young children. The true story woven together by Nancy Bain is both heart warming and uplifting and illustrates what a group of people can do to make the world a better place. The illustrations by Julie Leiman Weaver are all beautiful and full page, which make it enjoyable for young ones to look at. It is a beautiful gift to give a child at Christmas or for a birthday.

I am the owner of one of the Sheriff’s dogs Misty, and Lola who is also adopted from Turtle Gardens. They are happy to have a good life now and I am even luckier to have adopted them.

Thank you to Nancy for publishing such a beautiful book and to Turtle Gardens and supporters who do such wonderful work every day.

Having helped a friend to the sponsorship of one of the Sheriff’s dogs, I was delighted to hear that this book was coming out – and it met all my expectations. Told with love and compassion, with delightful illustrations, this is a book for dog-lovers of all ages – adults enjoy it as much as children. Turtle Gardens is blessed to have a champion in Nancy Bain!
